Ah, Dirty Jersey. I lived there until last year for most of a decade, and I came to love the people there--warts and all.

My personal experience? People tend to be hard-edged there, but (at least for me) not necessarily mean-spirited. They'll break your balls, but rarely ever go for the throat.
