I don't think there's a blanket of any sort that we can lay over this issue. Being married so you don't have to be alone often isn't a good idea, but I'm not sure that avoiding commitment forever because you don't know how to be with someone is, either. The answer for each individual likely rests somewhere in the self-examination, which is what I tried to convey with this piece.
