I'm guilty of using the word "utilize" quite a bit on a daily basis. But, in all fairness, I'm a Soldier in the U.S. Army and that has been part of our internal vernacular for a couple of centuries. I find myself having to remember not to talk like a Soldier when I'm writing--or talking with those who are not.
