I’ve always chosen to believe that Alanis was intentionally being ironic with her song about “ironic” things that actually weren’t.

My pet peeve is when people use the word “caveat” to add to something someone else has said when they really mean “addendum.” Caveat is a caution about what has been said, not an expansion of that thought.
